Shiurim
and lectures:
- Tisha
Be'Av (July 26-27). Both at night and in the
morning, we will be saying selected Kinot. Rabbi Prof.
Aryeh Frimer will be explaining the themes and
difficult language in those selected Kinot. The explanations
will be in Hebrew Tisha Be’Av night and in English during
Shacharit. Rabbi Motti Goldreich will be
giving his annual shiur on the Maharal’s understanding of
selected Midrashim that deal with the Churban immediately after
Shacharit.
- Tisha
Be'Av evening. Eitan Ronen will be giving a Zoom
lecture on the expulsion of the Jews from Spain גירוש ספרד in
Hebrew on Tisha Be'Av night Wednesday the 26th of

- Tisha
Be'Av afternoon: An hour and a half before Mincha (at
17:45) there will be a Zoom activity given by our own Marty
Hershkovitz: The Jewish people do not believe in
silence as a response to tragedy. Yirmiyahu exhorts his people
to confront the tragedy of Tisha Be’Av by expressing the pain:
“Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin;
pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord”
(Eicha 2:19). Tisha Be'Av is a day on which we remember our
tragedies and our deep suffering as a people and we should
include our most proximate “Churban”, the Shoah. Marty, a
second-generation Holocaust survivor, feels the failure of
current society and religious practice to connect to Holocaust
memory and to mourn. He felt the need to find the way to words
and to memory where there was once silence. Marty has written
his own series of Kinot and will lead a discussion (in English,
with Hebrew readings) about each person's path to creating a
personal narrative to remembrance based on his own path to

- Special
Shiurim next Shabbat. On Shabbat Nachamu (29/07,
Parashat Va’Etchanan), Dr. Susan Weissman, Chair of Judaic
Studies at Lander College for Women, Touro University, will give
a shiur following kiddush at approx. 11:00 on the topic of The
Ten Commandments, עשרת הדברות, in English. The shiur will be
given in the memory of Nachman Yonah ben Reb Shimon and Yehuda
Gershon ben Yosef. Between Mincha and Maariv (at approx. 19:20),
Yossi Shain will be giving a Shiur in Hebrew on
the topic: פרשת ציצית מפני מה קבעוה בקריאת שמע - עיון מחודש
במקורות in memory of his father הרב גרשון בן ברוך מרדכי ואסתר
מיכלא ז"ל.

An English teacher for an after-school English club for 5th
and 6th grade Ethiopian students. The club is
scheduled to meet in Rehovot, once a week, from 4-7 pm, during
the coming school year. The club is sponsored by Weuket
("knowledge" in Amharic) which is supported by the Rehovot
Municipality and the North American Conference on Ethiopian

person over 17, who would be interested in escorting my
husband from our home at Rehov David Shimoni 12, to Ohel Shai
Shul around 07:50 am and to escort him home after Ohel Shai
prayer service (around 10:15-10:30 am) – in return for

flag football team for 7th and 8th grade boys is
being established here in Rehovot, affiliated with AFI-Y
(American Football in Israel - Youth). There will be weekly
practices, and games against teams from other communities in
central Israel. The season starts in September. Please fill

league does not allow for co-ed teams, nor boys and girls to
