SHUL ACTIVITIES, EVENTS AND REMINDERS

- Scholar-in-Residence.
We are pleased to host Rabbi David Silber as a
scholar-in-residence this Shabbat. Rabbi Silber is the founder
and Dean of Drisha Institute for Jewish Education in New York
and Israel. Rabbi Silber is the author of three books: a
Passover Haggadah (Hebrew and English versions), a book on
Megilat Esther (in Hebrew) and Malchut Adam (Hebrew) on politics
and power through the prism of the Book of Samuel. He is the
recipient of the Covenant Award for Excellence in Jewish
Education and an acclaimed lecturer on the Bible. He received
his ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological
Seminary and is married to Dr. Devora Steinmetz. Rabbi Silber
will give two lectures in English on:
Shabbat Shira: The Song of the Sea and the Hallel prayer;
Shabbat morning after Kiddush at ~11:00
Shabbat Shira: The Song of the Sea and the holiday of of
Purim; following Mincha Shabbat afternoon at about
16:50
In addition, Rabbi Silber will be giving an informal
talk about the Parsha Friday night Feb. 3, at the
home of Leora Gorsetman and Omri Flicker, Glazer Street 17/17 at
20:00; all are invited.
- Cholent
Chefs urgently needed. Seeking three additional
Cholent Chefs, to step up to the crockpot and prepare their
family recipe (at the Shul on Friday Feb. 24th) for the Shul
Cholent kiddush on Feb 25th. To participate call Neal Hauser at

- Jointly
sponsored Yahrtzeit kiddush - Shevat. The Shevat JSK
will be held on February 11th, Parashat Yitro. To co-sponsor the

legacy of the Sefardic diaspora following the expulsion of
Spanish Jewry expulsion in 1492. He is Director of Academic
Research & Program Development at Jewish Heritage
Alliance, and his paternal ancestors lived in 15th century
