up Shabbat. Our community has been joined by many new
faces this past year, and we are thrilled to once again welcome
our new members with a kiddush in their honor. Fun
facts. We asked our newest members to share some fun
facts about themselves, which you can see here and on the Noticeboard,
and will be displayed at the kiddush this Shabbat. Everyone is
invited to walk around as Sherlocks doing some detective work,
trying to figure out which facts go with which family. Enjoy!
Next week, the identities behind the fun facts will be revealed
- watch this space!
In addition, members, old and new, will get a chance to
get to know each other over a MIX-IT-UP Shabbat lunch.

- ESRA
Rehovot Presents Online via Zoom, Wednesday,
December 14, at 19:30, “In the Face of Rising Antisemitism Why
Do Jews NOT Make Aliyah?,” a talk by Philip Marcus, Judge
(retired). There is a disagreement as to whether a Jew is
required by Halacha to make Aliyah; one of the arguments
against seems to be based on an opinion, written in the time
of the Crusades, that it is dangerous to travel to Eretz
Yisrael. Nowadays it may be more dangerous to stay in the
diaspora. The talk will examine some of the reasons people
give for not making Aliyah, and will invite a discussion as to
how to answer their reluctance. Philip Marcus served as a
Judge of the Jerusalem Magistrates Court of the Family Court
until he retired in 2012. Since retiring, he has lectured
around the world on family law, and also on Israel and Jewish
topics, particularly the place of Israel in Jewish life. All
proceeds support ESRA Rehovot project: Moadoniot (after school
programs for children at risk). Cost: ESRA Members NIS 25,
Non-members NIS 35. Registration: Contact the Booking Office
at 09-9508371, ext. 2, or through www.esra.org.il.
A Zoom link will be sent to your email address once your
payment has been processed.
