- Lecture. "What can we learn from the DNA of 33 medieval Ashkenazi Jews?". Speaker: Prof. Shai Carmi, Hebrew University School of Public Health. Monday 21-Nov-2022, 19:45 refreshments outside shul; ~19:50 Aravit; 20:00 Lecture (inside shul + Zoom). Prof. Carmi is an expert in Population and Statistical Genetics. His research focuses on the genetic basis of diseases and traits, reproductive genetic testing, genetic genealogy, mathematical population genetics, and ancient DNA. - Mix it up Shabbat. It is once again time for our annual MIX-IT-UP Shabbat! Our community has been joined by many new faces this past year, and we are thrilled to be able to once again welcome our new members with a kiddush in their honor. This year, the kiddush and the MIX-IT-UP meals will take place on the same Shabbat. On Shabbat December 10, Parshat Vayishlach, members, old and new, will get a chance to get to know each other over a MIX-IT-UP Shabbat lunch. Everyone interested in being "MIXED UP" for a Shabbat meal please RSVP by filling out this form NO LATER THAN Sunday November 27. We will match individuals and families, and together you will decide who is hosting and who will be hosted. Name tags will be provided to registered members, and to “candidates" who have registered an interest to join the shul. - Scooters and bikes. Some of our essential passageways have become obstacle courses due to kids leaving their bikes and scooters at the shul exits and in the area of the kiddush, in addition to kids zooming between the kiddush tables. The shul's insurance does not cover damages from an interaction with a privately-owned obstacle, and more importantly, we simply don't want anyone to trip. Please make sure your kids leave their riding toys in safe locations.

- This Shabbat, Parashat Vayera, we commemorate the untimely deaths of the 11 victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh with a special א-ל מלא רחמים in their honor. A link to the names of the victims can be viewed here or on the shul Noticeboard.

- ESRA Rehovot Presents Online via Zoom November 17 at 19:30, “Karaite Judaism,” a talk by Prof. Daniel J. Lasker. Karaism is the longest surviving non-Rabbinic form of Judaism. It emerged in the Islamic Middle East in the ninth century and still exists today. Prof. Lasker will discuss the emergence and history of Karaism, how Karaite practice differs from that of Rabbinic Judaism, and the status of Karaites in Israel. Prof. Lasker is the Norbert Blechner Professor of Jewish Values (emeritus) in the Goldstein-Goren Department of Jewish Thought at Ben-Gurion University, and the author of eight books and over 250 publications.
