- Prozbul.
The Shmita year formally ends on Rosh Hashana, and all loans
owed you are nullified (known as Shmitat Kesafim). To guarantee
the availability of loans, Hillel instituted Prozbul. The
consensus of Poskim is that all individuals with bank accounts
in Israel need to write a Prozbul. However, one need not write a
Prozbul themselves, but may appoint a messenger to write a
Prozbul for them - a method supported by both Rabbanei Tzohar
and Kollel Eretz Hemda. Appointing a messenger can be
done simply and quickly online. "A Brief Practical
Guide to Prozbul" by Rabbi Aryeh Frimer describes how; see Here, or on the Noticeboard.
- The
Zedaka Committee wishes to remind those who have not
yet sent their donations for Rosh Hashana to do so as soon as
possible. Last year we were able to help hundreds of families.
Please be generous and send your contributions this week, so we
can reach out to people before the chag. Thanking you as always
for your kindheartedness, we wish all our members a year of good
health and happiness. Preferred method of donation by credit
card/Paypal, either with members seat order form or at https://secured.israelgives.org/en/pay/BermanDonation.
Those wishing to donate online may do so by bank transfer
directly to the shul account: Account name: Jacob Berman
Community Center, Bank Mizrahi T'fahot, Branch 434, (Rehovot),
Account no. 514880. Make sure to specify on the online form that
the donation is for Zedaka, and send an email to accounts@bermanshul.org
with details of the transfer. Checks (discouraged) should be
made out to “Jacob Berman Community Center". Make sure they are
marked on the back “Zedaka”. The checks should be delivered to
members of the Zedaka Committee (Jerry Kriger, Rivka Kronengold,
Rebecca Krausz).

- Self
Defense course. I have recently been approached by
some Rehovot parents to offer an Empowerment
Self-Defense Course right here in Rehovot. Teaching
these kind of courses geared for every age and stage of life
has been part of my Life's Mission for more than 30 years.
Empowerment Self-Defense is an evidence-based method of
teaching concepts and skills that address a wide range of
challenging and threatening experiences, from harassment to
bullying to unwanted touch to assault. It includes
skill-building games for situational awareness,
boundary-setting, simple and effective physical defense skills
and recovery skills. Price, exact location and language of
instruction (Hebrew or English) will be based on feedback from
the community. SO, if you, any group of people, or someone you
know MIGHT be interested in such a course, please email me at
senseijs@gmail.com and
I will send you an Interest Survey- no commitment required.
The survey results will ensure that I plan with our community
in mind. -Jill Shames.
