regret to announce the passing of Beatrice Kleinbart
Herskovitz z”l, the mother of our member Marty Herskovitz. The
funeral took place on Tuesday 30.8 in Beit Shemesh. Marty will
be sitting shiva (in Jerusalem until Thursday afternoon and) in
Rehovot as of Mincha on Thursday afternoon [Sept 1], at his home
Rehov Gorodiski 27/2, through Monday morning, 5.9. Davening
times are as follows: Thursday 1.9: Mincha: 18:50 followed by
Ma’ariv. Friday 2.9: Shacharit: 6:30, Mincha: 13:30. Motzaei
Shabbat 3.9: Ma’ariv: 19:35. Sunday 4.9: Shacharit: 6:30,
Mincha: 18:45 followed by Ma’ariv. Monday 5.9: Shacharit: 6:30.

Rabbi Lookstein has been the rabbi of Congregation Kehilath
Jeshurun since 1958 and is Principal Emeritus of Ramaz school.
He is the Vice President of the Beth Din of America, and a
member of the Board of Directors of the UJA Federation of New
York. He is the author of "Were We Our Brothers' Keepers? The
Public Response of American Jews to the Holocaust, 1938-1944".

your old British pounds. Sept. 30th is the last day you can use paper
20 and 50 pound notes (paper 5 and 10 pound notes have previously been withdrawn). A shul
member is willing to trade in your old 5, 10, 20, and 50 pound
banknotes, and will then donate the Shekel equivalent on your
behalf to Hod Yisrael, a Rehovot charity. Hod Yisrael will
issue a 46a receipt to each donor. If you are interested in
donating your old paper pounds, please fill in this form

Defense course. I have recently been approached by
some Rehovot parents to offer an Empowerment
Self-Defense Course right here in Rehovot. Teaching
these kind of courses geared for every age and stage of life
has been part of my Life's Mission for more than 30 years.
Empowerment Self-Defense is an evidence-based method of
teaching concepts and skills that address a wide range of
challenging and threatening experiences, from harassment to
bullying to unwanted touch to assault. It includes
skill-building games for situational awareness,
boundary-setting, simple and effective physical defense skills
and recovery skills. Price, exact location and language of
instruction (Hebrew or English) will be based on feedback from
the community. SO, if you, any group of people, or someone you
know MIGHT be interested in such a course, please email me at

I will send you an Interest Survey- no commitment required.
