Halachic guides:
I. Important General Pesach Information:
Information regarding online Mechirat Chametz sites, the CRC and
OU Passover guides, and Medicine and cosmetic lists and policies
have been gathered by Rabbi Aryeh Frimer (Aryeh.Frimer@biu.ac.il;
054-7540761) and are listed below:
Mechirat Chametz online:

To search for a specific medicine: https://www.clalit.co.il/he/koshermedicines
Alternatively, you can call 03-7471818 and state the name of the
medicine. The answering system will tell you whether the
medicine is Kosher for Passover.
Pages 12-14 of the above Medicine list indicates that The Chief
Rabbinate’s policy is that no medicine containing Chametz should
be used unless it has no substitute and halting its use will
lead to safek pikuach nefesh. The CRC and OU policy below is
more lenient.
(2) CRC (Chicago Rabbinical Council) Passover Guide
can be found online at: https://www.crcweb.org/Pesach2021.php;

substitutes is found at https://www.crcweb.org/Passover/5781/Supplements,%20Infant%20Formulas,%20and%20Milk%20Substitutes%202021.pdf.
Some of the important highlights from the CRC Guide are as
follows:
- All pill medication (with or without chametz) that one
swallows is permitted without special hashgacha. Vitamins and
Food supplements do not necessarily fall under this category.
- Liquid and chewable medications that contain kitniyot are
permitted for one who is ill.
- All varieties of body soaps, shampoos and stick deodorants are
permitted for use on Pesach regardless of their ingredients.
- All types of ointments, creams, nail polish, hand lotions, eye
shadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, foot and face powders, and ink
and paint may be used regardless of their ingredients.
-Lipstick, mouthwash and toothpaste which contain Chametz should
not be used.
-Alcohol products (non-food) used for
medicines, cosmetics, perfumes and soaps produced in the USA do
not contain grain alcohol.
(3) OU Passover Guide can be found online at https://oukosher.org/passover/passover-guide/

maror; p. 108 for Infant formulas and supplements; and p. 110 of
the guide for their Policy on Medicines.
II. Erev Pesach Falls on Shabbat:
This year 5781 is a special one because Pesach starts on
Motsa’ei Shabbat and, hence, Erev Pesach falls on Shabbat. As a
result all sorts of clean-up procedures and pre-Pesach and
Shabbat rules and rituals need to be properly planned. The Short
Guide: "What to Do when Erev Pesach Falls on Shabbat (5781)" by
Rabbi Aryeh Frimer - [available in English and Hebrew and on the Noticeboard],
should assist all through your preparations. [These files have
been recently updated.]
III. Seder Begins Motsaei Shabbat - YaKNeHaZ:
In addition to the changes occurring on Thursday, Friday and
Shabbat/Erev Pesach (discussed in the above Guide), there are a
few important changes that affect the Seder itself which falls
on Motsaei Shabbat. These affect Candle lighting for Yom Tov,
Kiddush and Havdala. The guide: "Guidelines for Motsa'ei Shabbat
which falls on Seder Night - YaKNeHaZ" by Rabbi Aryeh Frimer,
should assist you with these matters. See here and on the Noticeboard.
IV. Davening Early when the Seder is on Motsa’ei
Shabbat:
Based on consultation with two poskim, Rav Asher Zelig Weiss
Shlit’a and Rav Avraham Shraga Stiglitz Shlit’a, an early
Minha/Ma’ariv is planned for Shabbat afternoon Erev Pesach at
17:25 (Plag Minha at 17:40). It is intended to assist those with
young children or elderly at the seder who will not be able to
stay up for the seder if the seder starts very late. It must be
reiterated that no preparations or melakha can be done following
davening until Shabbat is over, i.e., after 19:33 (Tseit
haKokhavim). Only then can "HaMavdil bein Kodesh leKodesh" be
recited, Yom Tov candles be lit and the seder begin. For further
discussion and rationale kindly see: “Davening Minha/Maariv
Early when the Seder is Motsa’ei Shabbat” by Rabbi Aryeh Frimer;
available here and on the Noticeboard.
- Hand
Sanitizer on Pesach (by R' Arye Frimer). Hand
Sanitizer is ca. 70% Alcohol (either denatured Ethanol, or
Rubbing Alcohol - isopropanol). Isopropanol is not produced from
a Chametz source. Ethanol could be made from grain but is
undrinkable if denatured. As a general rule, Ethanol used in
Cosmetics and Medicines produced in USA do not use ethanol
produced from Grain sources. Moreover, the remaining ingredients
are among others Polyacrylic acid, PEG-75, Ethoxylated Lanolin,
Triethanolamine, Propylene Glycol, and Benzyl Alcohol which
further render the solution undrinkable. By Law commercially
sold hand sanitizers must contain denaturants, which are
unpleasant-tasting ingredients that make the products
undrinkable. This is done so young children/toddlers, will not
be attracted to the pleasant smell or brightly colored bottles
of hand sanitizer. As a result, hand sanitizers are clearly
"Nifsal me-achilat Kelev" - unedible even by a dog, and present
absolutely no Pesach problem. This is also the expressed policy
of the CRC and Star K Kashrut organizations.
