SHUL ACTIVITIES, EVENTS AND REMINDERS תזכורות, אירועים ופעילויות של בית הכנסת

• Zoom lecture. We have had in the past, the pleasure of hearing Dr. Akiva Sternberg lecture on several of the books that he wrote. This coming Wednesday evening the 5th of Adar (17/2) at 19:30 the Berman community is invited to a mini-lecture series on his new book titled: מים חיים אל כלי - תהפוכות בהלכות מקוואות בעת החדשה. Among those speaking are Rabbi Prof. Daniel Sperber and Dr. Tova Ganzel. The talks are in Hebrew. For more information see here (or on the Noticeboard). • Erev Shabbat Zachor (February 19th). There will be a Zoom reading of Parashat Zachor on Friday afternoon at 15:30, for those unable to attend a live reading on Shabbat. Hearing Parashat Zachor via Zoom before Shabbat in this exceptional year is discussed in Rabbi Frimer's guide, referenced below.
• Purim guide. Purim is a joyous holiday associated with various mitzvot and rituals. The guidelines here (or on the Noticeboard) by Rabbi Aryeh Frimer are meant to assist congregants and their families in the fulfillment of the various customs and mitzvot of this joyous day. He also hopes to give guidance to those not attending shul due to COVID as how to best carry out the various rituals of the day - and join with the community, if only virtually, in the festivities of Purim.
• Megilla readings. As we all await final government regulations, there are signs that we may be able to gather in larger numbers on Purim. Our plan is to hold outdoor minyanim/readings in the evening and morning, likely according to the schedule on the shul PDF calendar. In addition to davening on yeshiva grounds, we are planning parallel child-friendly readings evening and morning at Tachkemoni. Zoom broadcasts will be available for selected services. Some shul members plan on holding separate megilla readings. If you plan to do so, and would like to have your reading publicized in next week's bulletin, please inform Jerry Kriger (geraldkriger@gmail.com) or Sidney Cohen (sidney684@gmail.com) by Tuesday next week.
• From the social committee. Just because you probably aren't gathering in person this year, doesn't mean you can't show off your Purim costume to the Berman community. We will be holding a virtual costume contest for members of all ages, and a Zoom mini minyan to give kids the opportunity to dress up while listening to megillah. More details on both events coming soon.
• In preparation for the imminent printing of the membership directory, members are requested to review their details in the Draft PDF Directory available in the Member Documents section, and edit their entries in the Shulcloud directory, as required. Instructions appear here. The final draft will reflect these changes. Email directory@bermanshul.org if assistance is required. The directories (electronic and printed) are provided for the exclusive, non-commercial use of members of the Berman Community Center. On no account should access be given to non-members.

• Horim, Yeladim, Pizza and Learning (HYPAL)- Every Sat. night from 18:45, outside the shul. For last-minute updates, please join the HYPAL whatsapp group. All ages are welcome. Family units will need to maintain distance from each other, and masks are required. Please bring your own books or study materials.
• ערב הורים, ילדים, פיצה, ולימוד יתקיים במוצאי שבת מחוץ לבית הכנסת (באזור הפרגולה, פלאזה ואמפיתיאטרון), מ 18:45. לעדכונים ברגע האחרון נא להצטרף לקבוצת הוואטסאפ. ערב הלימוד מיועד לכל הגילאים. משפחות צריכות לשמור מרחק אחת מן השניה, וחבישת מסיכות חובה. יש להצטייד בספרים מהבית.
• Berman's kiddush substitute discussion group (moderated by Stephen Simpson) invites you to its weekly meeting on Zoom every Wednesday at 21:00. The topic will be announced in the calendar and on Facebook a day or two before. The Zoom link and the topic for discussion will regularly appear on the live calendar.
• Berman Bidud Support Program If you, or someone close to you is in bidud (quarantine) we are here for you!
