le'shalom to our long time founding members Adele and
Tuvia Muskin who are leaving Rehovot and the Berman
community for Efrat, after 47 years. We wish them much health
and happiness in their new home, and look forward to seeing them
often at Smachot.

- Berman's
kiddush substitute discussion group (moderated by
Stephen Simpson) invites you to its weekly meeting on Zoom every
Wednesday at 21:00. The topic will be
announced in the calendar and on Facebook a day or two before.
The Zoom link and the topic for discussion will regularly appear
on the live calendar.

- Zoom
Lecture. ESRA Rehovot invites you to a Zoom lecture
on “Desalination: Providing Water for a Thirsty World,” by Dr.
Gerald Tanny, Tuesday, February 16, at 19:30. In
2008, Israel teetered on the edge of a drought catastrophe,
the worst in at least 900 years, and Israel was running out of
water. Now it has a surplus. That remarkable turnaround was
accomplished through national campaigns to conserve and reuse
Israel’s meager water resources. But the biggest impact came
from a new wave of desalination plants. Israel now gets 75
percent of its domestic water from desalination. This lecture
will examine the various technologies used to desalt sea water
and the role played by Israeli academics, engineers and
companies in promoting and expanding its use. Dr. Tanny is a retired
polymer physical chemist with over 50 scientific publications
and 13 patents in the field of membrane science and
technology. Cost: ESRA Members NIS 25. Non-members NIS 35.
