• Zoom lecture in Hebrew about Dealing with the Pandemic—ways of managing, helping ourselves and helping others—with emphasis on the elderly and those living alone. Thursday night, 22/10/2020 (the eve of the fifth of Heshvan) at eight P.M. The speaker is social worker (and Berman member) Meirav Meisner. The lecture is in memory of Jules Miller, z”l, (Zipora Polachek’s father) on his seventh Yahrzeit. • ESRA Rehovot Presents online via ZOOM, Wednesday, November 4, 2020, 19:30, a talk by Ben Lynfield on “Najib Mahfouz and Arab-Israel Peace.” Najib Mahfouz received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1988. He is known as the creator of the novel in the Arabic language, and has published 34 novels, over 350 short stories, dozens of movie scripts and five plays. Less known is that he advocated peace with Israel in 1967 and spearheaded intellectual support for Sadat's peace initiative. Ben Lynfield interviewed him in Cairo for the Jerusalem Post, and will discuss the laureate's openness to Israel. Ben Lynfield is the former Middle East affairs correspondent at the Jerusalem Post, was Jerusalem correspondent for the Independent and currently writes for Arab and Jewish publications.
