• Mazal Tov to Chana and Nati Faust on the Bat Mitzva of their daughter Ariel. "We thank Hashem for all the good we have and are so happy that our daughter Ariel reached this important stage in her life, her Bat Mitzva. • Mazal Tov to Gabrielle and Eyal Ainie who are thrilled to announce the marriage of their son Or-Eitan to Liat, daughter of Vivi and Ira Kosowsky of Hashmonaim. Mazal Tov to the grandparents Ruth and Oz Ainie and Eve and Phil Bloom and to the entire extended family. The wedding was due to take place on Erev Succot but was brought forward due to the national lockdown.

• Thank you. From its positon as fly-on-the-wall, the Bulletin is awed by the number of people who have spent hours upon hours to make sure we could all participate in holiday tefillot safely, and in relative comfort. This year, the shul called upon a small army of helpers, including new postions of minyan coordinator and Corona safety and compliance monitors, and placed additional burdens on the people running the reservation system, the halacha committee, translators, house committee, and our President. Our wish is that you'll be able to return to your day jobs, soon. Thank you as always to the Gabbaim, Baalei Tefilla, Baalei Tokea, set up crew, chair and equipment shleppers, and all those who contributed to our holiday tefillot.
• Yom Kippur tefillot. Members should have received an email with instructions for signing up for Tefillot on Yom Kippur. If you did not receive the email, please write website@bermanshul.org. Sign up will close on Friday afternoon before Shabbat. When making your decision, keep in mind that the weather on Yom Kippur is expected to reach 34˚ C. Coupled with fasting, the risk of heat-exhaustion or even heat stroke (which can be life threatening) is significantly increased. Anyone over the age of 60, under the age of 12, or with any preexisting medical condition that can increase their risk should strongly weigh the option of davening at home. Furthermore, the Halacha Committee has pointed out that fasting on Yom Kippur is more important than תפילה בציבור. If in doubt, it is better to pray at home and keep the fast.
• Halachic guides for Yom Kippur. On a communal level, heat considerations and a desire to minimize the duration of physical contact, have generated a need to shorten the duration of the Yom Kippur davening. The Halakha Committee has drawn up guidelines to facilitate this goal – which will be implemented this Yom Kippur. These guidelines also contain the text of a combined communal Kel Malei for חיילי צה"ל, קרבנות השואה, ולחברי בית הכנסת שהלכו לעולמם.

  On a personal level, many find the rich details of Yom Kippur challenging. In addition, because of Covid-19, many individuals have chosen to pray completely or partially be-yehidut (in the absence of a minyan). To this end, Rabbi Aryeh Frimer has drafted the guides below which will hopefully assist congregants in navigating through the various issues.

• Written (Hebrew) instructions and table of who should and should not fast if exposed to / infected with Corona. Prepared by Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi David Lau. • Yom Kippur l’Kulam at Havayyot Schweitz (52 Sireni, corner of Miller St.). Tfilla times: Kol Nidrei 18:25, and the following day Mincha 16:50, Yizkor 17:50, Neilah 18:00. Due to corona, the t'fillot will be shortened and will be held outside, behind the matnas building, with capsules, mandatory masks and 2-meter distancing.
