• Mazal Tov to Norma Rosenfeld on the Bar Mitzva of her grandson, Amichai, son of Efraim and Kinneret Rosenfeld of Sderot. The Bar Mitzva took place via Zoom last Thursday

• Updated Berman Coronavirus Virtual Community Page, with important links, information, Shabbat Parsha pages, online shiurim and lectures from our own in-house talent, and links to weekday tefillah [legal minyan] at the kotel, may be found here. If you have other links to include, please send them to penninasafer@gmail.com. Online content. In an effort to make the time we’re all spending in isolation both more meaningful and pass a little quicker, the shul has undertaken to provide programming on a wide variety of topics of interest. If you are interested in giving a lecture/shiur/presentation, on any topic of interest, our Zoom account will be made available on our website. In addition, the Education Committee is looking for someone to help with uploading and arranging in an easily accessible way, recordings of many of the lectures given at Berman shul and at the "Beit Midrash Letanach". • Daily Morning Shacharit minyan will resume outside the shul (not shabbat nor on holidays) at 6:30 effective immediately, but subject to strict rules to comply with Ministry of health guidelines. Rules may be seen here; daily signup required by 21:00 on the previous evening, here.
• Yom Haatzmaut virtually at Bermans. On Yom Hazikaron (Tuesday April 28th) at 19:15 Eyal Ainee and Daniel Schwartz will conduct a Yom Hazikaron memorial. Please wear a white shirt, and leave your cameras open so we can see each other, and say hello before the Tekkes starts. We will end on time for people to watch the official Tekkes on television, which starts at 19:45. After the Tekkes, at 20:45, Oz Aine will give a presentation called ילדותי בירושלים הנצורה. Zoom details will be posted on the COVIS19 page (linked on top of every page on our website, and here).
• Nina from Paint Party Events is so excited to be offering a series of drawing and sketch classes on Tuesdays from 2-3pm, starting this week. Come learn how to create a variety of beautiful artworks including landscapes, sunsets, still-lifes and so much more! You don't need any experience to participate. If you need drawing paper or pencils Nina is offering it at no cost to you. You can arrange a pick up time by calling 0542182799. Zoom details will be posted on the COVIS19 page (linked on top of every page on our website, and here).
• Haircuts during Sefirat HaOmer- From Rabbi Frimer. We are in the middle of sefirah, and many have the Minhag to observe the mourning of the Omer period from Pesach to Lag baOmer - including refraining from shaving and taking haircuts. This year, however, Rosh Chodesh Iyar is on Shabbat (as well as Friday). In honor of both Shabbat and Rosh Chodesh, shaving and haircuts may be taken next Friday, April 24. (Mishna Berura 493, subsection 5) [Finding a safe way to take that haircut may be another issue.] There are some poskim [including Rav Hershel Schachter] who maintain that since barber shops were closed before Chag, then those who need a haircut badly [generally 2 months from last haircut], may do so when such become available even during sefira. Others disagree. But this leniency doesn't apply to shaving, which one does himself daily. About this Friday ALL agree - haircuts and shaving are permitted.

• Virtual Joint Yahrtzeit Commemoration. The Nissan / Iyyar virtual JSK will be held on Parashat Emor. Members commemorating Yahrtzeits in Nissan and Iyyar are invited to submit the names of their loved ones, and we will list them in the May 7th bulletin. No charge and no food. To submit names, please contact Judd Bogdansky (jbogdansky@gmail.com) no later than Sunday, May 3rd. Judd confirms all emails he receives; if you do not hear back, please follow up.
