We are grieved to announce the passing of our member David Shamgar z”l, the husband of our member Beth. The funeral is scheduled for today, Thursday, November 14, at 15:00, at the Rehovot cemetery. Beth and the family will be sitting shiva in their home, 23 Batya Makov, through Wednesday morning, November 20. The number there is 08-945-2161. Visitors are requested to arrive between 10:00 – 13:00 and between 16:00 – 20:00. Davening times through Shabbat are: Shacharit: 6:15; Mincha: 16:35; Ma’ariv at 17:05. From Sunday morning, the times are Shacharit: 6:15; Mincha: 16:30; Ma’ariv at 17:00. ESRA Rehovot invites you to a talk on “English - the ‘magnificent bastard’ language” with Prof. Gershom Martin. The enormous vocabulary of English, its maddeningly irregular spelling, and its comparatively weak but quirky grammar all come from its mixed ancestry. English is considered a Germanic language by linguists, but the majority of its vocabulary comes from romance sources (Old French, Latin) and some of its grammatical features are actually Celtic in origin. What gives? Come and find out. Gershom Martin was born in Belgium in 1964. In 1996 he made aliyah and joined the faculty of the Weizmann Institute, where he is the Baroness Thatcher Professor of Chemistry. His academic specialty is computational quantum chemistry, and he has won several professional awards, including the Dirac Medal and the Israel Chemical Society Prize. Celebrating the Sigd Holiday in Rehovot. Berman members are cordially invited to two events to celebrate this unique holiday, sponsored by the Ethiopian Community in Rehovot and the Rehovot Municipality: 1. The Sigd Holiday with Poetry and the Visual Arts. An exhibition of the "Beta Collective" will present the work of 4 Ethiopian artists. In addition, four Ethiopian poets will present their work. The program will include dance and song performances.Sunday, the 19th of Cheshvan, 17.11.19, at the Rehovot Municipal College, 2 Giborei Yisrael Street (08) 945-9397. 19:30 Doors open. 20:00 Opening of the Art Exhibition. 20:30 Program begins. 2. The Sigd Holiday at Beit Ha'Am.
