• Haircuts and Shaving this Friday

  Dear Friends,
  This is to remind you that this coming Sunday May 18, 2014 is Lag B'Omer. Since Lag B'Omer falls on Sunday, the Rema (OH 493:2) allows Ashkenazim to take haircuts and shave on Friday in honor of Shabbat. [For Sefaradim this is permitted only on the 34th of the Omer (Monday).] The other restrictions continue until Lag BaOmer.

• In anticipation of the forthcoming Shmita year, we invite the public to two relevant lectures given by our member Dr. Joshua Klein who will speak in English.
  1. First lecture: "Shmitta and Sanity in the Kitchen: kedushat shvi'it, heter mechira, yevul nochri -- it's not as hard as you think". Scheduled for Monday, 19-05-14, Maariv 8:00 p.m. Lecture 8:15 p.m.
  2. Second lecture: "Shmitta and Greenery in the Garden and on the mirpeset-- the flowers that bloom in shvi'it". Details will be announced later.

• Welcome to Ora and Nethaniell Azuelos! Ora and Netanel moved to Rehovot recently from Haifa. Netanel is originally from Canada and Ora is from France. MISHEBEIRACH LECHOLIM + BIKKUR CHOLIM - מישברך לחולים וביקור חולים  

• Please send names  (3 maximum) to gabbai@bermanshul.org, (preferably by Thursday) or write them out and to give to the Gabbaim before kria. Names must be resubmitted anew every week and will be read on the following Shabbat morning. This is intended for people with a acute health issues; if you would like a misheberach for somebody with a chronic illness, please say the person's name to yourself during the prayer.
