It has been 10 years since the passing of Yehudit Taube z”l. The yahrzeit memorial will take place on Thursday the 11th of Adar (Taanit Esther) Feb. 21th 2013 at the Rehovot cemetary at 4:45 P.M. Family and friends will meet at the entrance to the cemetery.
Berman members are invited to a conversation with Joel Segel, who will speak on the topic "A Neo-Chassidic Approach to Kavanah," on Thursday evening, February 21st. The talk will offer some insights from the Chassidic approach of Rabbi Zalman Schacter-Shalomi, a founder of the Jewish Renewal Movement. Joel was raised at the Berman Synagogue and is co-author, with Reb Zalman of Davening: A Guide to Meaningful Jewish Prayer, which recently won the 2012 National Jewish Book Award. Lecture at 20:30. Refreshments served afterwards.
PURIM megilla (please note additions and changes vs. the PDF calendar)
- On Purim night (motzei shabbat) there will be three readings at Bermans:
  1. Reading in the shul at 18:45, with candy distributed to children
  2. Reading in the Beit Midrash of the yeshiva at 18:45 (same time as the reading in shul). This will be a "no-frills" reading (without candy for the children).
  3. Reading by teenagers in the shul at 21:00, not earlier as previously stated on the calendar
- For those interested, there will be a public megillah reading at Havayyot Schweitz on Purim night at 19:30. For details please contact david.tannor@weizmann.ac.il.
- Morning davening and megillah reading times are unchanged, viz. 7:00, 9:15 (women for women) and 10:30.
The board has decided to support "NISTAR", a graphic novel aimed at children battling cancer. The kabbala-inspired story, written by Berman's own Shira Frimer, features a superhero who searches for a mystical stone with miraculous healing powers. The purpose of the campaign is to raise money to publish and print the book, and then distribute it for free to child cancer patients. If you wish to be part of the Bermans community effort, kindly send your donation to the "Jacob Berman Community Center" ( מרכז קהילתי ע"ש יעקב ברמן), P.O. Box 1146 Rehovot 76111, and include a note that the donation is for the NISTAR campaign. Please note that you can claim an Israeli tax deduction for your donation.
