  • Nine years ago an organization called Leket Israel (www.leket.org) was started by a recent immigrant to Israel, Joseph Gitler. His idea was to rescue unused food and provide it to the needy. From a one man operation, Leket Israel has grown tremendously and with the help of 45,000 volunteers and a dedicated staff supports hundreds of non-profit organizations caring for the needy throughout Israel.
Among the highlights of the past year:
    • Leket rescued and redistributed over 25,000,000 pounds of food, serving over 140,000 needy Israelis every week
    • Leket supplied over 1,000,000 volunteer prepared sandwiches a day to school children from dysfunctional homes in 24 cities.
Leket is currently in the midst of a campaign with a goal of raising at least $360,000 by the first day of the Jewish New Year. Please have a look at their website, make a donation and help spread the word. http://roshhashanah.leket.org
