ANNOUNCEMENTS  
  • Mazal Tov to Yael Mishael on earning academic tenure at the Hebrew University Faculty of Agriculture. Kiddush is sponsored by Yael and Mishael to mark the achievement.
     
  • Mazal Tov to Ian & Jeanette Taylor on the birth of their first grandchild, a son born to Hadar & Hagai Shechter of Jerusalem.
     
  • We regret to announce the passing of Aryeh Machluff z"l, the father of our member Avichay Ankry. The funeral is scheduled for Monday night, March 5, at 9:00 PM, at the Beit Ha'kvarot Ha'chadash in Kiryat Ata. The family will be sitting Shiva at 10 Bialik Street, Kiryat Ata, through Monday morning, March 12. The number there is 054-337-7979.

  • The next Board meeting will be on Tuesday 13th March at 20:30 in the shul. The agenda will be posted here. Members with issues to raise should approach any Board member.
     
  • A special Thank You to Adi Friedlander for preparing the Purim candy bags.
     
  • In an effort to engage more community volunteers, we are renaming the shul board and subcommittees, and setting up some new ones:
    • Main shul board - the Over board
    • Planning – the Drawing board
    • Building – the Mortar board
    • Catering – the Smorgas board
    • Fee collection – the Bill board
    • Website – the Surf board
    • Shiduchim – the Match board
    • Audit commitee - the Above board
    • Parallel minyan - the Side board

    • Helping the needy – the Bread board

  • Other news:
    • The Young Israel organization has announced that it is seceding from its parent organization, the Elders of Zion. This announcement comes just as the parent organization considers its own future (see article).
    •  In an attempt to outdo the Saudi’s, ultraorthodox circles have called for a complete ban on men’s participation in the sale or purchase of all underwear (men’s too, since they seldom purchase their own underwear anyway). A special amuta will be set up to help out unmarried male orphans and transvestites.
    • The same ultraorthodox circles have also called for the banning of English due to lack of gender separation.

  • Members organizing private events (e.g. wedding, bar/bat mitzva celebrations etc.) are advised to use the shul calendar as follows:
    1. You can check for a date that does not clash with another event in the community.
    2. You may have your event listed as an anonymous "private event" so that others can avoid scheduling another event at the same time. Please let any board member know or send your request by e-mail to bermanshul@gmail.com.

  • I have a family from the US coming to Rehovot and will be with us for the Seder. Looking for accommodations for Thursday thru Sujnday nights for parents and three children - all over 15. If anyone has room please get in touch with me.

  • You are cordially invited to the Big Yearly Happening of Green Rehovot (Merhavei Rehovot) – a non political organization that aims to preserve the green space around our city as open, nature/agricultural space for us and our children. The happening will take place on Shushan Purim (Friday 9th March) between 9:00 and 12:00. Starting point is at the cemetery car park. Prepare for an easy ~1-2 hr walk (no strolleys) between different sites where you will hear about nature and plans for this area, and find fun activities for all ages.
