  • Letter from the parents of Alan Rashkovsky ז"ל

Dear friends at the Berman Shul Community,

Our son Alan left us on June 1st. Our wounds are very fresh and we are still fighting the grief and myriad questions for which we probably will never find answers to. During this time of grief we have been experiencing tremendous support from both Alan’s and our friends here in Canada, in Israel, and around the world. We never thought about how many lives Alan touched in his short 29 years and how many friends we have made because of him! He joined the Berman Shul because of the quality of the community as a whole and also because of the warm and loving relationships that he made with so many families while living alone in Rehovot. He was invited almost every Shabbat to your homes for Friday dinners, Saturday lunches, and other occasions. He felt at home in your midst and we appreciated your love and respect for him on our every visit to Rehovot from Canada. You quickly recognized his positive qualities: love and respect for people, love for life, high morals and ethics, honesty, strong Zionism and love for Israel, his readiness to help anyone who asked, strong work ethic, respect for parents and family members, and broad knowledge in many areas. Unfortunately, no one noticed the other side of him: extreme passion for his work to the point that he had no time to take proper care of his health. On June 1st his medical condition brought his life unexpectedly to an abrupt end.

We all are experiencing a huge loss. On the one hand, we cry for the life lost, for another, at least, 50 or 60 years Alan could have had to share his presence with us, with friends, with his future wife and children. Another 50 or 60 years that he could enrich our lives. But on the other hand we thank G-D for the gift of the precious 29 years Alan was with us making this world a better place for us, for his friends and for everyone he touched.

Thank you all at the Berman Shul for opening your homes and hearts to our son. Thank you for your support, as well, during our time of grieving. Please be sure you have dear friends here and a place to stay with us if you ever decide to visit Toronto.

    Sincerely,
    Reuven, Fania, and Karine Rashkovsky
