A group of 10th graders and above travelled to Yerushalayim on Wednesday 12th June for an evening tiyul entitled: In the footsteps of Reb Arye Levin". The tiyul visited the old world Yerushalayim of Reb Arye Levin, and was conducted by his grandson Rav Benji Levin. The tiyul culminated with Ma'ariv at the Kotel, a short shiur and Se'uda Mafseket.

We regret the passing of Joyce Shankman, ז"ל, the mother of our member Ellen Shankman Wides. The funeral took place Tuesday, July 18th, at the Eretz Haim cemetery in Beit Shemesh

A lecture for women, in memory of Chana Lesser, A"H, took place11 June (15>16 Sivan) at the Rehovot Ezer MiZion office. The topic, "Positive Thinking: A Jewish Approach - How to Improve Personal Relationships Within the Family and Among Friends". " was presented by well-known author and parent-group facilitator, Sarah Kisner.

A trip to Jerusalem, organized by Greta Rosenberg, took place on 15th June 2006. The topicwas "In the footsteps of Rav Aryeh Levin" (A tzaddik in our time) known as the "father of the prisoners", a man who always stayed to the end with those whom the British condemned to die, to sustain and give them courage.

The Berensons are grateful to the many friends who said tehillim, expressed their concern and prayed for Oz Chaim's recovery over the last four years from the time that he became ill.

Due to popular demand to see just how many different ways there are for a shul to say misheberach for sick persons, following two months of one permutation we arenow implementing another permutation: the gabbaim wil not be keeping lists of names to recite. Anyone attendingshul on a Monday, Thursday or Shabbat morning may atthat time give the gabbai a name to be recited. The gabbaimask that if possible, names be written out and presented to the officiating gabbai beforehand so as to minimize the hubbub around the bima during the recitation of misheberachs. ----

Shabbat /Parshat Toldot, November 8-9, will be the Yaakov Yehuda Frimer z'l Memorial Scholar in Residence Shabbaton at our synagogue. The scholar-in-residence will be James L. Kugel, Professor of Bible at Bar-Ilan University and Professor of Classical and Modern Jewish and Hebrew Literature, Professor of Comparative Literature, and Director of the Center for Jewish Studies at Harvard University. Professor Kugel will speak Friday night at 8 pm as part of an oneg Shabbat, and again between minha and maariv on Shabbat afternoon. All are welcome to attend.

SIMCHAT TORAH - IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Davening on Simchat Torah will include two important changes from previous years. First, hakafot in the morning will be limited to a total of 50 minutes (i.e. approximately 7 minutes per hakafa), rather than extending for an undetermined amount of time. Second, kiddush will follow, rather than precede musaf. Members who wish to continue dancing throughout the remainder of the morning and through the afternoon are invited to do so in the shul after kiddush. We are saddened to announce the death of Ethel Brosilow, mother of Berman member Coleman Brosilow, who died early this morning Israel time. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, September 19 in Philadelphia.

We are deeply grieved to announce the tragic and untimely death of Esti Kleinman, the granddaughter of our member Rose Green and the daughter of our former members Ruhoma and Nachman Kleinman. The funeral was held today in Neve Tzuf. The family is sitting shiva until Wednesday afternoon, March 27, at the family's home in Neve Tzuf. May the family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

We regret to announce the passing of Kalman Orchers z"l, father of our member Nettie Beer. The funeral will take place Sunday, March 10 at 14:00 at the Rehovot cemetary. The Education Committee is pleased to announce the commencement of a minyan for youngsters of Bar-Mitzva age and above. The youth minyan will be held in a classroom in one of the buildings next to the large football (soccer) field adjoining Rehov Meltzer (next to the room where the t'filla of the 6-8 year-old children's group takes place). The inaugural minyan will meet on Shabbat Parashat Vayikra (16 March) and thereafter every Shabbat Mevarchim Hachodesh.
